Speed, A Slip, A Hospital Trip
November 14TH started out like a regular Saturday. Chance was up at 5:00 AM getting ready for work. The rest of the household was still tucked in tight. The weather outside was ugly and a storm was blowing in quick. Chance usually takes the little Kia Soul to Jackson, but this Saturday we felt like the roads were bad enough that he should probably take the Montero. Chance needed gas before the one hour drive to Jackson. Right before he left Eric and I told him to just give us a ring when he made it to work. He didn't need to talk to us, just let the phone ring once so we could relax and know he was safe and sound. At about 6:15AM the phone rang, a little to soon for Chance to be at work all ready, then the phone rang again...... My first thought was "He ran out of gas" So I answered the phone and said "You ran out of gas didn't ya buddy?" I hear Chance on the other end he says "Mom, Ive crashed the car and I'm bleeding and everything!" Okay THIS is the call no parent wants to get! I was grateful that it was Chance on the line however and not a strangers voice telling me of the news. Eric and I threw shoes and coats on and ran out the door. The accident happened just 3 miles from our home. Chance was going to fast on icy roads and here's the crazy part.................. He lost control of the car, went off the road and slammed the ROOF of my Montero into a telephone pole at 60 miles a hour! The car then somehow landed about 12 feet away from the pole on all four wheels! All emergency responders could NOT figure out what would cause the car to land how and where it did! From looking at the totaled car, It looks like the car was dragged on its roof due to dirt and debris on the roof of the car, also there were large rocks inside the car that were picked up along the way. EVERY SINGLE THING that was IN the car was OUTSIDE the car, broken and strung about. Chance in his seat belt was the only reaming object in the car! Chance walked away with a gouge above his left eye which required about 8 stitches. Other than that he was fine. Of course he was extremely sore for the next few days but alive and well! We are so grateful for seat belts and grateful that Chance has always made the choice to "Make it Click" When Eric and I drove to the accident and saw the car we both just gasp! We are so grateful that he is still here with us. We love you Chance!

Thanksgiving has become one of the Schreiber Tribes favorite Holidays. Because Eric has such a huge work load the day before Thanksgiving and the day after, we aren't able to travel to far of a distance to be with friends and family, so about 6 years ago we started our own tradition. We wake up Thanksgiving morning, kind of take it easy for a few hours and then head into Idaho Falls for the day. We go out to eat and then usually go to the Falls for photos. Then we hit the movies. After we usually do a little pre-Black Friday shopping and then go home. My brother Rich and his family have been joining us for the past several years and we have loved having them! This year was a little different because Joyah just was not going to sit through a movie! I ended up getting her to sleep in the car and just parked and read while everyone else enjoyed their show. That was okay too :)
Here are a few things we are thankful for, in no particular order...........Our house, Joyah, Joyah's smile, The mountains, The beautiful place we live, Loved ones, Our faith, Good examples, Asic shoes, Eric's mad hunting skills, Aleah, Aleah's beautiful voice, Warm cars, Ice cream, Chap stick, Soft lips, Contacts, Clean underwear, Ironed clothes, Air, Water, Summertime, Volleyball, Theatre, Jobs, Paychecks, Laughter, Chance, Chance's sense of humor, Grandparents, pillows, The piano, Fun cousins, Cell phones, Fresh salads, Sunglasses, Eric, Tevo, Eric's mad cooking skills, Days at the lake, Darby Canyon Wind Caves, Aaron and his great example, Snowboarding, Skiing, Crisp sheets, Seat belts, Frank, Camping, Friends, Surprises, America, Hummus, Support, Talents, Awesome Aunts and Uncles, Did we say Frank?, Snow tires, Snow blowers, Popcorn and movie nights, Games around the table, Slippers, Glee, Daisy and Snickers, Furnaces that work, Hot tubs.
